Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the PetOK mobile application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User") and PetOK ("we", "us", or "our"), operated by [REGISTERED BUSINESS NAME], registered in Malaysia (SSM No. [INSERT]).
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of Service
PetOK is a mobile application that helps pet owners discover pet‑friendly places in Penang, Malaysia, and (in future) across Southeast Asia. The App provides:
- Pet Policy Cards: Structured, community‑ and admin‑verified information about whether pets are allowed at specific venues, including allowed areas, pet types, size restrictions, and entry conditions.
- Freshness Indicators: Badges showing how recently a venue's pet policy was verified (Fresh, Aging, Stale, or Unverified).
- Temporary Restriction Cards: Time‑bound notices of short‑term pet access changes at specific venues.
- Events Listings: Pet‑friendly events in the area, submitted and moderated by the PetOK team and community.
- Community Confirmations: The ability for registered users to confirm that a venue's listed policy remains accurate.
- User Submissions: Registered users may submit new venues, suggest edits to existing listings, upload photos, submit events, and write reviews.
PetOK is an information platform only. We do not own, operate, or represent any of the venues listed. Pet policies are subject to change without notice by the venues themselves. Always confirm with a venue directly before visiting.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to create a PetOK account and use account‑based features. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement. Guests (users without an account) may browse venue listings, view Pet Policy Cards, and view event listings without registering.
4. Account Registration
To access write features (submitting venues, suggesting edits, uploading photos, saving favourites, writing reviews, submitting events), you must register with a valid email address and password. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate and truthful registration information.
- Keeping your account credentials secure and confidential.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
Email address changes require administrator approval. Notify us immediately at hello@petok.my if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
5. User‑Submitted Content
5.1 What You May Submit
Registered users may submit:
- New venue listings (places where pets may be allowed).
- Suggested edits to existing venue listings.
- Photos of venues (maximum 10 photos per venue; maximum 5 MB per photo before compression).
- Pet‑friendly events (one‑time, weekly, or monthly).
- Reviews of venues (text only, 50–500 characters, one review per user per venue).
- Community confirmations that a venue's policy is still accurate.
5.2 Moderation
All user‑submitted content is subject to moderation before going live. We do not guarantee that submissions will be approved. Review turnaround times are:
- New venue submissions and events: within 48 hours.
- Edit suggestions and photos: within 72 hours.
- Temporary restriction notices: within 4 hours during operating hours (9 am–10 pm daily).
We reserve the right to reject, modify, or remove any content that violates these Terms, our community guidelines, or applicable law.
5.3 Content Standards
All content you submit must:
- Be accurate and based on genuine first‑hand knowledge or experience.
- Relate to pet access at real venues in the listed location.
- Not contain profanity, hate speech, personal attacks, or discriminatory language.
- Not be promotional, spam, or submitted with commercial intent without our permission.
- Not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
5.4 Licence to Your Content
By submitting content to PetOK, you grant us a non‑exclusive, royalty‑free, worldwide licence to store, display, reproduce, distribute, and use your submitted content within the App and any associated promotional materials. You retain ownership of content you submit.
Content you submit (including venue listings, photos, and reviews) remains visible on the App even if you delete your account. Ownership of submitted venues transfers to the PetOK administrator upon account deletion.
6. Verification Tiers and Accuracy Disclaimer
PetOK uses a three‑tier verification system:
- Tier 1 (Admin‑Verified): Policy confirmed by a PetOK administrator via direct call or visit.
- Tier 2 (Owner‑Verified): Policy confirmed by the business owner, with ownership validated by our team.
- Tier 3 (Community‑Verified): Policy confirmed by 5 or more independent community confirmations.
- Unverified: Submitted and approved, but not yet confirmed by any of the above methods.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Despite our best efforts, venue pet policies change frequently. PetOK does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or currency of any information on the App. Freshness badges indicate when information was last verified, not whether it is currently correct. You use PetOK information at your own risk. Always contact the venue directly before visiting with your pet to confirm their current policy.
7. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or fabricated venue information or reviews.
- Submit fraudulent community confirmations (e.g., confirming a venue you have not visited).
- Attempt to manipulate a venue's verification tier or community confirmation count through coordinated or fake submissions.
- Harass, impersonate, or harm other users or venue owners.
- Use the App for any commercial purpose without our express written consent.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App, its systems, or another user's account.
- Scrape, copy, or systematically extract data from the App without our permission.
- Use automated means (bots, scripts) to interact with the App.
- Upload malicious content, viruses, or any code intended to harm the App or its users.
Violation of these prohibitions may result in immediate account suspension or termination, and in serious cases, referral to relevant authorities.
8. Verified Partner Programme
Venue owners may apply to become a PetOK Verified Partner. The Verified Partner designation:
- Is granted by PetOK administrators after validating business ownership.
- Allows the venue to display a PetOK Verified Partner badge in the App.
- Entitles the partner to a PetOK Certified digital sticker and, where available, a physical sticker.
IMPORTANT: Payment for Verified Partner status does not and will never influence a venue's position in search results, map rankings, or organic recommendations. Paid tiers are limited to presentation and branding features only. The accuracy of Pet Policy Cards is governed solely by our verification framework, not by commercial arrangements.
Venue owners are responsible for notifying PetOK immediately at hello@petok.my if their pet policy changes.
9. Intellectual Property
The PetOK App, including its design, branding, logo, name, software, and structured content (excluding user‑submitted content), is owned by PetOK and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of PetOK's intellectual property without our express written consent.
The PetOK paw logo and "PetOK Certified" badge are trademark assets of PetOK. Venue partners may display these assets only as expressly authorised under the Verified Partner Programme.
10. Third‑Party Services
The App uses third‑party services including but not limited to:
- Google Maps (for map display and navigation) — subject to Google's Terms of Service.
- Firebase (for data storage, authentication, and analytics) — subject to Google's Terms of Service.
- PostHog (for product analytics and session replay) — subject to PostHog's Terms of Service.
Tapping "Get Directions" or similar navigation links will open a third‑party maps application on your device. PetOK is not responsible for the content or conduct of any third‑party services.
11. Privacy
Your use of PetOK is also governed by our Privacy Policy, available at [INSERT PRIVACY POLICY URL] and accessible within the App under Profile > Privacy Policy. By using the App, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Deep Links and Sharing
PetOK supports shareable deep links for individual venue and event pages in the format petok.my/places/{id} and petok.my/events/{id}. When you share a PetOK link, the recipient may view the listing in the App or, in future, via the PetOK website.
You may share PetOK links freely for personal, non‑commercial purposes. You may not use PetOK links in automated systems, mass marketing, or in any manner that misrepresents the App or its content.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON‑INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The App will be error‑free, uninterrupted, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
- The information on the App is accurate, complete, current, or reliable.
- Any venue listed will actually permit pets at the time of your visit.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Malaysian law, PetOK and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:
- Your use of, or inability to use, the App.
- Reliance on any information provided through the App.
- Any incident occurring during a visit to a venue discovered through the App, including refusal of entry, injury, or property damage.
- Any unauthorized access to your account or data.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount (if any) you paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
15. Account Suspension and Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in harmful conduct. Upon account termination:
- Your access to account‑based features will be revoked immediately.
- Pending submissions will be auto‑rejected.
- Approved venue listings you submitted will remain live; ownership transfers to the PetOK administrator.
- Your reviews and photos will be hidden pending administrator review.
You may delete your own account at any time through the Profile screen. Content you have contributed will remain on the App as described above.
16. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
Before initiating any formal dispute, we encourage you to contact us at hello@petok.my so that we can attempt to resolve the matter informally.
17. Changes to the App and These Terms
We may update, suspend, or discontinue any feature or the App itself at any time without liability. We will endeavor to provide reasonable notice of significant changes.
If we make material changes to these Terms, we will notify you via an in‑app notice or email. Your continued use of the App after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
